Even if not story based DLC, id Software can always launch more multiplayer game modes or added bonuses to the main campaign for players to enjoy. There will always be more gateways from hell opening up and demons to blast away, so the Doom Slayer's work is never truly done.
Therefore, just because The Ancient Gods has reached its end, doesn't mean other avenues can't be explored within the Doom universe. This is a work of fiction after all, with wiggle room always being available to the creative team to come up with new material and possibilities for what to explore next. However, even with that story being concluded, this doesn't necessarily mean that there is nothing else that can be done.
